Geran Raath is a highly skilled steadicam operator with over 5 years experience in the photography and film industry and extensive training in various aspects of film production. Having attended the Vaal Triangle University of Technology, the Motion Picture Academy and AFDA (African Film Drama Arts), his expertise is multi-layered.
Geran first fell in love with the steadicam during his years of study. The versatility and ultra-smooth motion afforded by the camera compelled him to pursue this skill further. Since then he has worked on various reputable projects including dramas, documentaries, music videos, short films and live broadcast.
Apart from steadicam work, Geran is fluent in rigging, camera operating, focus pulling, lighting, grips and production design. Furthermore, Geran's professional photography background gives him the edge in framing and composition, while his extensive training in various aspects of film production (cinematography, sound design, editing and production design) ensures seamless collaboration with all members of the crew.
Having grown up in rural South Africa, Geran is particularly drawn to wildlife and game capture documentaries, as well as community projects. One day, he hopes to bring cinema to South Africans in rural and township areas.
